Mainland North Joint Emergency Management Team Hosted a Training Session

Everyone has a role to play in making sure we all stay safe in emergencies. In the critical hours following a crisis, while local and provincial response agencies are dealing with the immediate and urgent needs of the municipality, residents in affected communities need to be prepared to help themselves and to assist their neighbours, who may have been seriously impacted by the event. Comfort Centre Management volunteers are critical to assist neighbours helping neighbours.

Under the municipal emergency plan (MEP), in conditions that don’t require an evacuation, during an emergency, the municipality may establish or support community comfort centers whereby a resident population may visit to receive essential needs like meals, hygiene facilities, electronic device charging capabilities.

Comfort Centre Management training sessions at the Canada Games Centre

On February 15th at the Canada Games Centre, the Mainland North Joint Emergency Management Team hosted a training session. This group of volunteers received the Comfort Centre Management Level I/II program. This session was developed to allow community volunteers to prepare for and respond quickly to, a wide range of community emergencies.

With busy lives, it can be hard to find time to volunteer. However, the benefits of volunteering can be enormous. The important thing is to volunteer only the amount of time that feels comfortable to you. Volunteering should feel like a fun and rewarding hobby, not another chore on your to-do list. By volunteering with the Mainland North Joint Emergency Management team is a great way to give back and support our neighbours in times of critical need.
